Do I get reimbursed for some of my expenses?

Updated March 3, 2025 to ensure correctness.

Yes! You are entitled to reimbursements for certain expenses such as mandatory courses, travel/parking during orientation, accommodation during rural rotations, and others.

Each resident is allocated a Resident Activity Fund (RAF) or Resident Education Fund (REF) depending on their program. This is intended for conference registration, textbooks, and others. The RAF or REF is provided to the program and the program / site admin will allocate it accordingly. Depending on your site, you may have some left over for you to use for your own academic pursuits! For example, you may choose to spend your RAF or REF to attend a specific conference or buy a textbook. If you’re interested, you should ask your site coordinator / program administrator how much of your RAF or REF is available for you to use.

Please see the UBC Resident Reimbursement page for more details.

Resident Insight

Because of the processing time, you may not get reimbursed for 1-3 months. Therefore, it is a good idea to have a way of keeping track of your expenses to ensure you get reimbursed.

Here is an example table of how you can keep track of expenses:

Item Submitted to Submitted date Submitted amount Reimbursed date Reimbursed amount
ACLS JohnSmith@ubc.ca May 13 $450 Aug 30 $450
